Catching the Wave: The Church

As Christians we are called not to be lone operators but form communities of people, what we now call “church”. Chris concludes our Catching the Wave series by speaking on our contribution to the church and how we can pray for revival in our nation and around the world.
Karen leads the rest of the service with music from Pete and Lynne.

What’s In Your Hand?

As Chris is away this week Susan brings us back to a question that we first asked ourselves in 2019, what is in your hand? That question has taken on far more meaning than we ever thought it could have done over the last year and a half, and because of that Susan asks us to reconsider our answer. After this pandemic is over, what have we got to offer God and our community?
Ant leads the rest of the service as he interviews Emily about her work as a nurse in the NHS and Mike leads our worship this week.

Going Back or Moving On?

As we exit national lockdown (for the time being at least) we have a choice to make. Do we go back to what we did before or do we move on and try something new? Chris looks at several instances through the Bible where those decisions were made and looks at what we can learn from them.
Susan leads the rest of the service with music led by Pete and Lynne.

Communion July 2021

Chris and Lynne lead us through our Communion service for July 2021. We were unable to renew our covenant with each other and with God in our traditional covenant service in February and so this week we take that opportunity as we are on the brink of re-opening the church for full-scale Sunday services. On that note, Chris speaks about the relaxation of lockdown rules and how we as Christians can love our neighbours in the times that will be ahead where we will legally (but not necessarily morally) be able to take our lives “back to normal”.
Lynne has chosen the music for this week and also brings us an update on the inaugural Worship in the Woods held last weekend.

Catching the Wave: Education

We continue the Catching the Wave series as this week Chris looks at education, how many educational establishments were set up by Christians and using Christian principles and how we can support those that work in education now.
James leads the rest of the service as he interviews somebody he should know very well, and Kath brings this week’s reading.

Catching the Wave: The Media

We continue our series on the Catching the Wave materials by this week looking at the media. Chris expands upon the media that the disciples of Jesus would have had access to and links it through the centuries to the media that we have access to in the 21st century.
Andy leads the rest of the service, with prayers for the media and an illustration based upon one of his favourite TV programmes…

Catching the Wave: Politics

We continue our series on Catching the Wave with what has turned out to be extremely topical subject given recent events. Chris speaks on the history of politics and Christianity and reminds us of the commandment to pray for our leaders – even if (perhaps, especially if!) we disagree with what they’re doing.
Ant leads the rest of the service whilst Lynne picks the songs for the worship time.

Communion June 2021

This week we held our first in-person Communion since March 2020. In the service Chris speaks on the meaning behind – and the lasting impact of – Jesus’ last words on the cross, as recorded in John’s gospel.
James leads the rest of the service, whilst Maureen brings us the reading.

Catching the Wave: Christians in Business

This week we continue our mini-series based on the Catching the Wave materials as we consider Christians in business. Ricky Dolphin challenges our stereotypes of what we think “doing business” is and invites us to reconsider how our Christian faith can inform our decisions around work, and in the world of the entrepreneur.
Susan leads the rest of the service as she interviews Pete about his day-to-day life and Tony brings us an update on the work of GenR8.

Catching the Wave: God the Father

This week Chris begins our new series based upon materials produced by Christian charity There Is Hope, “Catching the Wave”. The first week focusses in on God as our Father, who welcomes us home no matter how or when we think we’ve disappointed him.

Lynne leads the rest of the service where we have an interview with the Hurley family.
