Science Sunday 2023: Ornitheology

This week we held our annual Science Sunday service for 2023. This is a service whereby we aim to demonstrate that science and Christianity are not as incompatible as some would have us believe. This year, we invite back Prof Mel Euerby who speaks about his passion for birds and photography, drawing links between the amazing diversity of bird life on Earth and showing how that demonstrates God’s love through the natural world.

Chris leads the rest of the service with prayers for scientists and Pete leads our sung worship.

Science Sunday 2022

There is a fallacy within the general public, often promoted by atheistic scientists, that science and faith are incompatable with one another. This is categorically not the case! For our Science Sunday 2022, we have invited Dr Ruth Bancewicz from the Faraday Institute to speak on her experiences on the subject and how she believes that science and faith can – and should – go hand-in-hand.

Chris leads the rest of the service and Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Science Sunday 2021

For our Science Sunday service for 2021 Rev Dr John Weaver speaks about a subject that is rarely out of the news: climate change. What does the Bible have to say about how can we as Christians respond to the challenge of combatting climate change and how can we change our habits to ensure that God’s creation is not tarnished further?
Chris leads the rest of the service, whilst Pete leads our sung worship.

Science Sunday 2020

This week it’s our annual Science Sunday service. But a reminder: this service is for everybody, not just scientists! This year our speaker is Andy Boston, who has a background as a physicist.
Chris leads us through the rest of the service, bringing us information about our Mission of the Month for November, Tearfund.

Science Sunday 2018 – Divine Windows (AM)

2018-19 Baptist Union President (and scientist!) Dave Gregory visits Burwell on our annual Science Sunday as part of his Divine Windows initiative to bring science and faith into a closer relationship. In the morning session Dave explains something of his role as Baptist Union President and looks at how we can see something of the wonder of God through one of his greatest passions: astronomy.

Science Sunday (Part Three)

Scientist (and Christian!) Prof Mel Euerby joins us for a special service investigating the integration of science and faith. In this final of three parts Mel looks at Psalm 19 and the way that both God’s world (as described by science) and God’s word (as described by faith) cannot be seen fully without the other.

Science Sunday (Part Two)

Scientist (and Christian!) Prof Mel Euerby joins us for a special service investigating the integration of science and faith. In the second of three parts Mel speaks about the many eminent scientists that are Christians and explains the reasons why he believes science and faith are not mutually exclusive.

Science Sunday (Part One)

Scientist (and Christian!) Prof Mel Euerby joins us for a special service investigating the integration of science and faith. In this first of three parts Mel takes us through his professional experience and shares his testimony of how he came to faith.
