Sermons on Christmas

Epiphany: A Journey of Faith

For our final service of 2025 Chris speaks on the visit of the Magi, commonly celebrated at the traditional festival of Epiphany. The wise men were the first recorded people who seemingly understood and worshipped Jesus as God, not just as a new messenger or prophet. It wasn’t the Jewish teachers, or people who knew the Law really, really well, but (an unknown number of!) non-Jews who God chose to reveal the birth of His son to and guide so they could worship. How can we seek God’s guidance so He can reveal the path to us as well?

Andy leads the rest of the service, revealing his nerdy love of maps and navigation, whilst Pete leads our sung worship.

Love: The Invitation to Trust – Advent 2025, Week Four

In the final of our Advent series we look at the invitation that God gives us to trust in Him and the Son he sent to save us. Chris speaks on the love that God has for us, despite all our failings, that he sent Jesus to be one of us, live amongst us, and ultimately to die for us.

Karen leads the rest of the service as we share Communion together for the final time this year and Mike leads our sung worship.

Joy: The Echo of Good News – Advent 2025, Week Three

Shona leads our All Age service for December, continuing our advent themes. This week we were thinking about Joy. There is a difference between joy with a little “j” and joy with a capital “J”, this Christmastime we need to remember that true Joy (with a capital “J”) can only be achieved by finding Jesus.

Pete and Nick lead our sung worship this week.

Love

We continue on the journey towards Christmas by lighting the forth candle on our advent wreath, this year representing love. Chris speaks on the word given to Joseph by the angel of the Lord in a dream leading to his decision to marry Mary. We discover the love of Joseph, Mary and most of all,…

Joy

We continue on the journey towards Christmas by lighting the third candle on our advent wreath, this year representing joy. Chris speaks on the word given to Mary by Gabriel and her subsequent visit to see Zechariah and Elizabeth. In this we see the three aspects of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, all present, working as one and inviting Mary to participate in God’s great plan. He then contrasts it with the act of communion, the Lord’s Supper, where at the other end of Jesus’ earthly life we are all now invited to participate in that great plan of God.

Andy leads the rest of the service thinking about the origin of the word joy and its importance in the Bible whilst Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship.

Wonder

Ant leads our all-age service for December, choosing the theme of wonder as his subject for this month. God has many names in the Bible, at this time of year we focus on the name Immanuel, God With Us, and the wonder that Jesus’ coming brings into our lives.

Mike leads our sung worship this week.

Advent 2023: Peace

As we conclude our Advent series for 2023 Chris looks at Jesus bringing peace to the world. This doesn’t just mean no conflict; it means true Shalom peace, the reconciliation and reunification of God’s people. The making right of the world. And Jesus calls us to do that right alongside him.

We also have prayers for peace in situations in our lives and around the world whilst Pete leads our sung Christmas worship.
