Sermons on John

No Greater Love: Easter 2025

For our Easter service for 2025 we’re trying something a little different, as we had no Good Friday service we are combining both the events of the last supper, crucifixion and resurrection all in one. In the service Chris speaks about the impact that the resurrection has through Jesus’ words to his disciples in John 15. We see how the resurrection means love, revelation and victory.

Andy leads the rest of the service as we hold communion with one another and think about that great sacrifice on the cross. Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship.

The Wedding at Cana

This week we were visited by incumbent Baptist Union president, Steve Finamore. Steve speaks on Jesus’ first recorded miracle in the book of John, the turning of water into wine at the wedding in Cana. In that passage Jesus takes something unremarkable and changes it so that the jars are overflowing with the finest of wine. If he can do that to a few jars of water then surely he can transform us!

Chris leads the rest of the service (no, he’s not getting a week off!) whilst Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Harvest 2024

This week we held our Harvest service for 2024. Andrew Dalwood speaks about Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well and how God uses the most unlikely people to bring in his harvest.

Ant leads the rest of the service showing off his suprisingly in-depth knowledge of UK crop yields over the last year and Pete leads our sung worship.

Peter

We conclude our summer mini-series of studies by focussing on Peter’s experience of the resurrected Jesus and his reinstatement as the rock on which the Church will be built following his denial of Christ in the hours leading up to the crucifixion. Chris leads us through Jesus and Peter’s conversation on the shores of Galilee.

Ant leads the rest of the service with a illustration using the tools of his trade whilst Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Thomas

This week we continue our summer mini-series looking at familiar passages of the Bible in different ways. Andy leads us through the reflections on the events of Jesus revealing himself first to some of the disciples and then later to all of them, particularly focussing on the initial doubt and subsequent faith of Thomas.

Chris leads us in communion as we once again remember Jesus’ great sacrifice whilst Mike leads our sung worship.

Mary Magdalene

This week Chris starts a short summer series inviting us to look at familiar Bible passages in unfamiliar ways. This first week we re-visit Mary Magdalene’s experience as she meets the resurrected Jesus on the day that he rose from the dead.

Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship whilst Lynne also leads prayers for peace to come to the violence that has erupted in our cities over the past weeks.

The Bread of Life

Our speaker this week is our EBA regional minister Gale Richards. Gale speaks on Jesus’ encouragement to us that he is our bread of life, the sustinence that we all need. How can we embrace that and begin to share it with those around us?

Ant leads the rest of the service as he asks us what Jesus’ favourite sandwich would be (it’s relevant, we promise!), Pete gives us an update on our Mission of the Month (AIM) and Mike and Dave lead our sung worship.

A New Beginning, Easter 2024

Christ is Risen! We celebrate Easter this year with Chris challenging us to have a new beginning. Every person has a choice: shall we conform to the world or shall we follow Jesus? We are (strongly!) encouraged to choose Jesus and choose life!

Susan leads the rest of the service whilst Lynne, Pete and Dave lead our sung worship.

Advent 2023: Joy

We continue our Advent series for 2023 and Chris looks this week at the joy that Jesus brings. Joy is a simple but powerful word. It’s not something that we can force ourselves to feel, but something that processes out of glorifying and rejoicing in the Lord. Even in our darkest moments we are called to rejoice in the Lord and what Jesus has done, from this rejoicing will come our joy!

Ant leads the rest of the service with a rather unorthodox baking tutorial whilst Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship.

All Age Service

James leads our all-age service for October. God loves us. He loves his church, and he loves everyone in it. We all know this! But he also loves everyone outside of the church too and gives us the task of showing that love to everyone we meet. How do we do that with our friends, colleagues and the other people we meet every day?

Mike leads us in our sung worship this week.
