Sermons from June 2023

Following Jesus

Peter Wells makes the perilous journey of 6 miles from Lode to Burwell to bring us our message this week. He speak on the calling of the first disciples and how Jesus bucked the trend of the Jewish Rabbis of the time by selecting his own disciples and calling those that nobody would have guessed. Alone they were just ordinary fishermen and tax collectors, yet because of Jesus’ calling they started a long chain of testimony that reaches through history right to us today. How can we carry on propogating the message?

Andy leads the rest of the service whilst Mike leads our sung worship.

Jesus: What is the Kingdom of God like?

In the final installment of his monthly series on Jesus, Roger Standing looks at how Jesus describes what the kingdom of God is like. First as a mustard seed, then as grains of yeast. Both look small and ineffective but make a huge difference when they’re put into action – how can we take our own status as meek, lowly and humble and turn that into making a huge difference for God?

Susan leads the rest of the service as we share communion together and Mike leads our sung worship.

God’s Plans

Tim Bright joins us this week and speaks on the plans that God has for us, both as individuals and as a church. Using the crossing of the Red Sea as an example, Tim looks at how often the direction we’re going doesn’t seem to be the right way, but by following God he works it all out in the end for our good.

Karen leads the rest of the service with an update on GenR8, our mission of the month for June, and Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Zacchaeus

Shona leads our all-age service for June, looking at the story of Zacchaeus. How did one encounter with Jesus turn a selfish, self-serving, bullying and greedy tax collector’s life around so that he eventually gave half of his money to the poor?

Pete and Nick lead our sung worship this week.
