Sermons on Acts (Page 4)

Acts 5

We continue our ongoing series looking at the book of Acts with Chris speaking on the events Luke recalls in chapter 5: the deaths of Ananais and Sapphira, continued healings of the sick and the arrest, imprisonment, miraculous escape and re-arrest of the apostles. We begin to see three interconnected groups arising: the apostles, the people and the Sanhedrin (and other Jewish leaders). Which group do we fall into?

James leads the rest of the service, thinking about the vastness of God’s creation and Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship.

Acts 4

We resume our series looking at the book of Acts with Chris this week speaking on chapter 4. The miracle at the temple (see last time!) did not go unnoticed and Peter and John find themselves brought before the Sanhedrin to explain what happened. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter does not hold back and the Pharisees and Sadducees don’t quite know how to react. If the Holy Spirit can turn Peter from someone who denied Christ into someone who gives one of the most eloquent defences of him, how much more can it help us in our situations?

Ant leads the rest of the service whilst Pete leads our sung worship.

Acts 3

We continue our new series looking at the book of Acts with Chris speaking on the healing at the temple of the man who could not walk. This is the apostles taking all that they have learned from the last few years of their lives with Jesus and following his example. How can we follow the lead of Peter and John and allow Jesus to work through us?

James leads the rest of the service (possibly giving us the answer before Chris asks the question!) and Mike and Lynne lead our sung worship.

Acts: Introduction

This week we begin a new series looking at the book of Acts and how the Holy Spirit worked through the early church to bring about the great people movement that we’re a part of today. In week 1, Chris brings us an introduction to the series and an overview of Acts 1 and 2. How can we view a very familiar story (Pentecost) in a new way?

Andy leads the rest of the service, thinking about the way the disciples were able to preach to everybody in Jerusalem regardless of the language they spoke, whilst Pete leads our sung worship.

Seek the Lord With All Your Heart

This week Chris and Lynne return from their sabbatical period, with much of their time spent on seeking the Lord and His plans. Chris spends this first week back looking at Acts 15 and asking how we can continue to seek the Lord for ourselves.

Karen leads the rest of the service whilst Lynne and Dave lead our sung worship.

Pentecost: The Church in Unity

For our Pentecost service this year Simon Bailey reminds us that although churches around the world may have different traditions or ways to worship we are all called as Christians to profess Jesus’ name through the Holy Spirit. There is more that unites us than separates us.

James leads the rest of the service whilst Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

How Will Jesus Build His Church?

In the final part of our two most recent series, building and being a fellowship, Chris ties together the threads and explores how Jesus will build His church. We look at how the statements are intrinsically linked together – how you cannot be a loving, worshipping, learning, evangelistic or spirit-filled fellowship without Jesus’ guidance and how leaving just one of those out causes the rest to fall. You cannot have one without all the others!

Susan leads the rest of the service with a time for the sharing of testimonies and sung worship led by Pete.

Pentecost 2022: Thank You, Sorry, Please

In the midst of the Platinum Jubilee weekend we take a short break from our current series and celebrate not only the historic event of Queen Elizabeth II reigning for 70 years but also the even more historic event of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, the birthday of the Church. Shona leads us through an all-age service, speaking on where the Holy Spirit is and how we can recognise his work. Chris leads us in our prayers for our nation, prompting us to thank God, say sorry to Him and ask Him for His help in our country and in ourselves.

Pete leads our sung worship this week.

Being an Evangelistic Fellowship

Our series on being a fellowship continues with us discovering how to be an evangelistic fellowship. Chris invites Karl Relton from Countess Free Church in Ely to speak on the evangelism initiatives both he has personally pursued and those that they have pursued as a church. He encourages us that it is not our job to convict people, we simply speak the truth. It is the Spirit’s job to inspire our words in other people.

Chris leads us through the rest of the service with a time of open prayer for our mission of the month, Home Mission, and Mike leads our sung worship.

Building an Evangelistic Fellowship

Our series on building a fellowship continues as Chris this week looks at building an evangelistic fellowship. What does it mean to be an evangelist? What would an evangelistic fellowship look like? We examine how not all evangelists are called to proclaim the gospel from a prominent platform, how we are all evangelists in our own way with the non-Christians that we mix with every day and how we can encourage them in their steps of faith.

Andy leads the rest of the service with music led by Lynne and Mike and communion led by Chris.
