Easter Trail – Tuesday 31st March – Parable of the Foolish Builders – Luke.6:46-49

Jesus told parables or stories to tell people about God and the Kingdom of Heaven.

He told this story about the wise and foolish builders to explain why it is good to live by faith in Jesus. He said, ‘two builders decided to build a home for themselves. One built his house on hard foundations using rock.

It was hard work for the wise man, he got very tired and his arms hurt.

A foolish man decided to build a new home too. But he built it on soft foundations like sand. He built his house quickly and he did not get very tired.

The foolish man was very happy with his house when he finished it.

That night, a big storm happened. It rained all night on the wise and foolish man’s houses, and the water rose up high.

Oh NO!! The foolish man’s house built on soft foundations like sand, washed away. The man fell into the water and got very wet and cold.

But the wise man’s house, the one built it on hard foundations like rock, did not wash away. He stayed safe and dry all night.

Jesus told this story to help us to understand how important it is to obey God and to follow Him, even if it is hard at times.

Jesus said, ‘Everyone who hears the things He is saying and obeys them, is like the wise man who built his house on Jesus’ teaching and the Bible.’

But the foolish man who hears God’s teaching and ignores it, is like the man who built his house on the soft foundations like sand.
