Who we are
We are Gravity, a group of youths (age 11 to 18) who meet together on a Sunday night. Our aim is to make the whole idea of coming to Church accessible to teenagers. Why Gravity? Well, why not? No, seriously, we’ll perhaps explain properly one day…
What we do
There is a very long list of things that we do at Gravity. For the first half of the evening, we have a chill-out session including table tennis, pool, Guitar Hero, our famous (or infamous) “mocktails”, Wii games and music. Occasionally we’ll even break out the Pucket table for a few rounds of brutal competition (look it up, it’s an AMAZING game!). Rest assured you’ll get roped into something energetic! For the second half of the evening, we split into two mini-groups to prepare for our semi-regular youth services. The more musical amongst us hold a band practice for our newly-formed youth band, performing modern worship songs and other Christian music. Meanwhile, the non-musical folk write and rehearse sketches, make videos, do quizzes, and do other activities (like designing this very webpage!).
Occasionally we run special events like pizza evening, doughnt evening, outings and film nights.
For a rough schedule of what’s coming up in the next few weeks, see our latest schedule here (you will need a suitable PDF reader to open the file).
You’ve read a lot of great things about what we do at Gravity. But what’s the best thing about it? It’s ABSOLUTELY FREE!
When we meet
Now, this is going to be a slightly complex answer to a very simple question. Gravity meets on Sunday evenings between 6:30 and 8:30 at Burwell Baptist Church. Simple so far? Well, pay attention, because this is where it gets complicated… We only meet on the SECOND and FOURTH Sundays of each month. That’s because on the other Sunday evenings we run cafe-style services for youths and older. These often include a contribution from Gravity.
So, to recap, 6:30PM to 8:30PM on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. OK, maybe it wasn’t as complicated as initially made out…
Gravity is led primarily by our volunteer Youthworker Andrew Webb, with a small but dedicated team to back him up. See some of our lovely faces in the gallery below…
