Sermons by Roger Standing

Jesus: What is the Kingdom of God like?

In the final installment of his monthly series on Jesus, Roger Standing looks at how Jesus describes what the kingdom of God is like. First as a mustard seed, then as grains of yeast. Both look small and ineffective but make a huge difference when they’re put into action – how can we take our own status as meek, lowly and humble and turn that into making a huge difference for God?

Susan leads the rest of the service as we share communion together and Mike leads our sung worship.

Jesus: And You Will be Children of the Most High

Roger Standing continues his monthly mini-series looking at Jesus. This week he looks at Jesus’ teaching about how generous God is with us and his undeserving kindness to us: the ungrateful and wicked. How can we reflect that generosity to others?

Andy leads the rest of the service as we share communion together and Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

Jesus: Pinning His Colours to the Mast

In the first of a new monthly mini-series on Jesus, Roger Standing looks at how Jesus announced the start of his ministry in his hometown of Nazareth. These were the people who knew him best, what was their reaction to the local tradesman revealing himself as the promised messiah and setting out his mission statement? And how does that reflect our willingness to accept Jesus today?

Karen leads the rest of the service as we get an update from Susan about our mission of the month for April, Home Mission, and Pete and Nick lead our sung worship.

The Harvest is Plentiful But the Workers Are Few

As Chris is away this week, our visiting speaker is Roger Standing, former principal of Spurgeon’s College in London (and son-in-law of one of our members!). Roger speaks on the sending of the 72 from Luke’s gospel, encouraging us at the start of a new year that we should go forward in faith, even though we might not know what is ahead, and that although the work of a Christian will not be easy it will be eternally rewarding.
Ant leads us through the rest of the service with some surprising insight into surnames, whilst Mike leads the sung worship.
