Sermons by Chris Johnson (Page 15)

The Golden Rule

This service is available in both video and audio format.
Chris leads us through our next study of the Sermon on the Mount, looking at how we are reminded not to judge others and explains a little about asking, seeking and knocking.
Karen leads the rest of the service, with an update from July’s Mission of the Month – Stand By Me – prayers from Greta and music chosen by Mike.

Prescription for Anxiety

This service is available in both video and audio format.
Chris continues our look at the sermon on the mount, this time focussing on Jesus’ teaching about worry and what treasures we store up in Heaven and on earth.
Andy leads the rest of the service with contributions from Pete and Kath Robinson, plus newly recorded worship from Pete, Nick and Susan.

Playing at Religion

This service is available in both video and audio format.
Chris looks at the passages around the Lord’s Prayer and examines Jesus’ teaching on giving, prayer and fasting.
Vanessa leads our prayers this week, Sarah H does the reading and Ant is leading the rest of the service, with reference to a not particularly season-appropriate film… Mike chooses the music for the worship.

Zoom Communion Romans

A recording of a live Zoom communion service. Susan leads the service, and Chris brings a reflection on a passage from Romans. Plus songs chosen by Pete and Susan. Unfortunatlely the video quality is not great, but hopefully you can see past that and still meet with God.

The Extra Mile

This service is available in both video and audio format.
This week Chris looks at the next part of the Sermon on the Mount, examining Jesus’ teaching on love for your enemies. Something which – in light of recent events in the US – looks more relevant now than it did even a week ago.
Elsewhere Lynne leads the rest of the service with contributions from Graham and Sue, Sarah G and Pete providing the music.

Maintaining Integrity

This service is available in both video and audio format.
The Spirit is given. He is given indeed! (don’t worry, that will make sense later).
We find ourselves at another significant time in the church calendar: Pentecost, the giving of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. And we are once again celebrating in isolation from each other, separate in body but not in unity or purpose.
Chris leads us through the next section in the Sermon on the Mount, looking at Matthew 5:27-37. Meanwhile, Susan leads the rest of the sevice, Daniel brings us the reading, Andy leads prayers and Mike has chosen the music for us today.

Anger Management

This service is available in both video and audio format.
Chris contines our series on the sermon on the mount, looking at Matthew 5:17-26.
Karen is leading the rest of the service, Graham and Sue provide an update on their situation and Pete, Nick and Susan have recorded some music to help us worship.

Zoom Communion 1 Peter

And now for something completely different. Spoiler alert: that won’t be the last time you hear that particular franchise referenced today.
On Sunday we attempted to hold a live virtual service via Zoom so that we were able to share communion together. This is a recording of that service. Due to the nature of Zoom recordings unfortunately the video quality is not fantastic, but we hope that you can still get a sense of God’s presence amongst us despite our separation.

Life Changing Attitudes Part 2

This service is available in both video and audio format.
We’re continuing our new series on the Sermon on the Mount and this week Chris looks at the second part of the Beatitudes.
James leads the rest of the service, featuring reflections, prayers from Sally, a reading from Greta and music chosen by Mike.
Also, this week we’ve been digging in the archives and found some songs recorded for a service in 2017 that have been cleaned up, remastered and will help us get a sense of what it is like to be all together as a congregation again. Sing along with yourself from 3 years ago!

Life Changing Attitudes Part 1

This service is available in both video and audio format.
Chris begins a new sermon series looking at what are possibly Jesus’ most famous teachings: the sermon on the mount. This week, focussing on the beatitudes.
Shona leads the rest of the service, with contributions from Pete and Kath, who share how life has changed for them over the past few weeks, Trevor brings the reading and Mike leads prayers.
We’re doing something a little different for the music this week. Watch the service video to find out more, and thanks to Pete for choosing this week’s selection.
