Sermons by Chris Johnson (Page 11)

Catching the Wave: Education

We continue the Catching the Wave series as this week Chris looks at education, how many educational establishments were set up by Christians and using Christian principles and how we can support those that work in education now.
James leads the rest of the service as he interviews somebody he should know very well, and Kath brings this week’s reading.

Catching the Wave: The Media

We continue our series on the Catching the Wave materials by this week looking at the media. Chris expands upon the media that the disciples of Jesus would have had access to and links it through the centuries to the media that we have access to in the 21st century.
Andy leads the rest of the service, with prayers for the media and an illustration based upon one of his favourite TV programmes…

Catching the Wave: Politics

We continue our series on Catching the Wave with what has turned out to be extremely topical subject given recent events. Chris speaks on the history of politics and Christianity and reminds us of the commandment to pray for our leaders – even if (perhaps, especially if!) we disagree with what they’re doing.
Ant leads the rest of the service whilst Lynne picks the songs for the worship time.

Communion June 2021

This week we held our first in-person Communion since March 2020. In the service Chris speaks on the meaning behind – and the lasting impact of – Jesus’ last words on the cross, as recorded in John’s gospel.
James leads the rest of the service, whilst Maureen brings us the reading.

Catching the Wave: God the Father

This week Chris begins our new series based upon materials produced by Christian charity There Is Hope, “Catching the Wave”. The first week focusses in on God as our Father, who welcomes us home no matter how or when we think we’ve disappointed him.

Lynne leads the rest of the service where we have an interview with the Hurley family.

Try Praying

This week we held our first in-person/Zoom hybrid service. We carry on the theme from our Pentecost service as Chris explains a little more about the Try Praying initiative, how it can affect our walk with God and how it can help others to start that journey.

Pentecost 2021

This week we held our first in-person live service since March 2020. This was held outside due to current COVID restrictions on congregational singing indoors, and therefore the sound quality of this recorded sermon isn’t fantastic. But we hope that you can still get a flavour of what God is saying to us as a church.

COVID-19 and the restrictions that came along with it have changed our lives over the last year whether we like it or not. Chris speaks about the changes that the disciples experienced in their lives since meeting Jesus and applies their thought processes to our constantly changing lives today.

Walking and Talking

We continue with our series in Psalm 119 and this week Chris looks at verses 41 to 48, given the Hebrew subtitle “Vau” or “Waw” (depending on your translation). Would you like to know God’s love more fully? Would you like to experience a greater freedom in your spiritual walk? Then keep watching or listening!
Ant leads the rest of the service, with an update on our mission of the month AiM, and Mike chooses this week’s worship time.

Ending Well

We return to our series in Psalm 119, verses 33 to 40, represented by the Hebrew letter “He”. Chris looks at how we should stick with God’s good work right until the very end.
Susan leads the rest of the service with a reminder about change and transformation and Emily provides the reading. Pete chooses this week’s music.

Down But Not Out

We return to our series in Psalm 119 this week, and Chris looks at the fourth letter of the Hebrew alphabet “Daleth”. When faced with troubles, how can God help us rebuild our lives?
Karen leads the rest of the service and music this week was chosen by Mike.
