Sermons on John (Page 2)

Jesus Heals The Official’s Son

Today we begin our summer series, and this year we will be focussing on Jesus’ healing miracles in the gospel of John. Throughout his book, John outlines seven miracles as evidence that Jesus was indeed who he said he was. In the healing of the official’s son we see that Jesus doesn’t even need to be anywhere near the person for healing to take place and Chris explores the implications of that discovery.

Karen leads the rest of the service with an update on our Mission of the Month for July, Stand by Me, and Mike leads our sung worship. There is also an opportunity for prayer for healing.

Pentecost 2022: Thank You, Sorry, Please

In the midst of the Platinum Jubilee weekend we take a short break from our current series and celebrate not only the historic event of Queen Elizabeth II reigning for 70 years but also the even more historic event of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, the birthday of the Church. Shona leads us through an all-age service, speaking on where the Holy Spirit is and how we can recognise his work. Chris leads us in our prayers for our nation, prompting us to thank God, say sorry to Him and ask Him for His help in our country and in ourselves.

Pete leads our sung worship this week.

Being a Spirit Filled Fellowship Part One: Who is the Holy Spirit?

In the lead-up to Pentecost in a couple of weeks, we re-visit our series on Being a Fellowship with the first of four services on Being a Spirit Filled Fellowship. This week, Chris looks at the basics: who is the Holy Spirit and how can he be a mediator between us and God?

Andy leads the rest of the service as welcome Anne into membership, share communion with each other and sing togther with music led by Pete.

Baptist Assembly 2022

This week we joined with our fellow Baptist churches across the UK to watch a live stream of the Baptist Assembly Sunday Service from Bournemouth. In the service Alan Donaldson, General Secretary of the European Baptist Federation speaks on our rapidly changing and shifting world and encourages us to make God our dwelling place though all that is going on and whatever is to come.

Palm Sunday 2022

An all-age service for Palm Sunday. This year Chris looks at what Jesus was doing immediately before his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and how the raising of Lazarus from the dead put pressure on the Pharisees to take action and directly led to the events of Jesus’ own death and resurrection.

James leads the rest of the service with contributions from Lyn and Esther and sung worship led by Pete and Nick.

Communion June 2021

This week we held our first in-person Communion since March 2020. In the service Chris speaks on the meaning behind – and the lasting impact of – Jesus’ last words on the cross, as recorded in John’s gospel.
James leads the rest of the service, whilst Maureen brings us the reading.

Unity Service 2021 – Abiding With Christ

This week we join with our fellow Christians in and around Burwell for the annual Churches Together in Burwell Unity Service. But this year with a bit of a difference. For obvious reasons we cannot all be in the same building and so instead the service this year is distributed through each church’s usual channels.
The service is led by the Catholic community in Burwell on the theme of Abiding with Christ. With special thanks to the team at St Mary’s for tackling the collating and editing this week.
After the joint service itself, we have also added a further worship time with music this week chosen by Andy.

Zoom Communion 5 John

This is a recording of a live Zoom communion service held on 20th September 2020.
In our Harvest service for 2020 Ricky Dolphin looks at the story of Jesus and the woman at the well and shows us how Jesus used an unlikely encounter to reap a harvest, challenging us to see where our unlikely situations for reaping a harvest may be.
James leads our communion and the rest of the service.
