Barry Canning

Barry, serves as an elder at the church.

On leaving school, Barry joined the RAF as an apprentice and served 12 yeas in an electronics trade at various stations at home and abroad.  On leaving, he obtained employment with the Medical Research Council at their Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Barry gave his life to the Lord at this church on Valentines day 1988 and was baptised on 11th June the following year at High St. Baptist Church. He and his wife Sheila returned here some 15 years ago and he serve on the diaconate for nine of those years.

Barry early retired in 1998 to look after his wife Sheila, when she was struggling with multiple sclerosis. When she passed away in 2009 in Barry’s words “she left a massive hole in my life”.   Barry has responded to this by volunteering in the chaplaincy at Addenbrookes Hospital, at Burwell Print Centre and occasionally at Centre Peace in the village.

Barry has a heart for pastoral care and the furtherance of God’s Kingdom through one to one relationships and small group ministry.
